Remembering the Sky

Freedom begins the moment we remember we are the sky, not the storm.

Most of us spend our lives believing we are our thoughts and emotions. We become caught in worry, fear, anger, or grief, forgetting that something much deeper quietly holds every experience.

Awareness is that deeper presence. It exists before thought, before emotion, before the stories we tell ourselves. Thoughts arise within awareness. Emotions move through awareness. Even our sense of identity appears within this vast field of knowing.

The sky offers a beautiful metaphor. Clouds gather and disappear. Storms arrive and eventually pass. Sunlight and shadow continually change. Yet the sky itself remains unchanged, spacious enough to hold it all. Much of our suffering comes from forgetting the sky and believing we are the storm.

When we remember awareness, our relationship with life begins to change. We can experience fear without being consumed by it, grieve without losing ourselves, and meet anger without allowing it to take control. Awareness doesn’t judge or resist what arises. It simply witnesses with quiet presence.

Like the depths of a still lake beneath rippling water, awareness remains undisturbed even as life moves across its surface. The more we learn to rest there, the more freedom, clarity, and peace naturally emerge.
